Environmental Management (EM) at Sandia National Laboratories, New Mexico includes the collection of environmental
data to assess the potential impacts of Sandia operations. EM documents and reports the impacts of existing SNL/NM operations on the environment and assists other SNL/NM
departments with environmental issues. The purpose of EM is to help SNL/NM organizations understand the potential environmental impacts of their work activities and to help
them to minimize their environmental impacts. EM ensures compliance with federal, state, local
and Department of Energy requirements.
The EM programs at SNL/NM include environmental compliance self assessments, regulatory reporting,
and project reviews. These programs encompass a broad range of environmental considerations, including the environmental management system (EMS),
air quality, water quality, environmental surveillance, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) information and practices, environmental education (outreach), long-term environmental stewardship, and pollution prevention.
